It’s nice if you’re advertising to people with no friends who look at their own pics a lot.
In facebook’s rush to put a dollar sign on every square inch of it’s site in order to convince the world it’s worth investing in, they’ve just slapped a few ads at the bottom right of the comment box. That’s one more annoyance for users, and one more perk for advertisers, as long as no one is looking at your pictures. as soon as there are a handful of comments the ads are (thankfully) pushed off the bottom. i personally don’t know many people who don’t get a handful of comments on anything they post, just simply because there’s always a crowd of bored office drones (or are they facebook addicts?) you’ve friended that will say SOMETHING about pretty much ANYTHING.
so that’s a bad deal for the advertiser, and slightly annoying for us. until they decide that the bottom third of the comment area is protected advertising land, and if you want to read comments, be prepared to scroll like hell. or they’ll just start sticking ads between the comments, like twitter.
either way, they’re invading the space of the one thing zuckerberg swears is the reason he got into the game in the first place, to give people a place to (ahem, rate females like cattle) be social and communicate (while being incessantly advertised at).
and i’m not even going to start complaining about how the nav and comments jump around with different pic sizes.
